What Customers Say About Harvesting the Heart:

It catches your interest right away and keeps it through to the end. I have to admit I don't like all of her books, but this book was hard to put down from start to finish.

Then I saw that it was written in 1993 and I'm thinking it must have been her first - it was terrible, really, don't bother - I can't believe others liked it. Harvesting the Heart was the worst book ever. It was such dribble, I didn't believe anything about it.I thought how many times can eyes flash with rage, how many times this and that - I loved My Sister's Keeper and Nineteen Minutes, so I thought this would be great and it was just awful - I kept thinking maybe it would get better, but it didn't.

Yet, why all the innuendo. Lastly, the sterotypes that Piccoult throws in are if you read into things, kind of silly: The rich, cold parents that cast off their son when he marries some "common" girl, the Irish holy roller father who cannot forgive his daughter.Spare me. First I must say that I have read and enjoyed other Piccoult books, so I dived into this one with great expectations. First off, the relationship between Paige and Nick just seems so farfetched. This book made me want to reach out and slap some sense into these people. In my opinion, Paige was a wishy washy whiner, and how she could even attract a friend, let alone the driven, rich, handsome aspiring doctor is beyond the realm of any fiction. Yes, it is bad that mom left her when she was a child.

I imagine most doctors would recognize depression, yet when his wife that he is so madly in love with has a breakdown of sorts, he is cruel to her. And she keeps running,,,,,,and Nick.

I think Piccoult wanted readers to have sympathy for her, or on some level relate to her. Then, Paige hits a crisis and just takes off, no rhyme, no reason.

I was not pleased by this book. Why not just come out and ask Dad why did she leave.

Quite frankly, if you must read this book, get it used, borrow from the library or a friend. Another problem I have is with Paige herself.

Reading the book from her point of view was almost painful.

This is the last Picoult novel for me. All the references to G-d and the author's opinions on abortion, human relations and religion were more than one fiction novel need to contain. This is the first and last book I will read by this author. It was way too preachy.

Their shared personality traits of extreme selfishness and an inability to communicate with any degree of honesty was stunning. Why can't these people talk to each other. I disliked both of the main characters. Why does she have to take off, leaving her small baby,to search for her long-lost mom, and blame the absent mom for her decision to abandon her family. This is a book that I couldn't put down.

The end was vague, so I really don't know what happened. Having said that, I wanted to see how it all turned out. Why can't her handsome husband be involved with the child, prior to his wife's departure. OK, I liked the book and read it non-stop even though I didn't like these two people. Why can't she just say so. They simply weren't on the same page and it was frustrating for the reader. OK, so Paige is tired after the birth of her baby and she needs a little companionship, help and an outside interest. These two people constantly made wrong assumptions about each other and frequently misunderstood each other.

I don't know why. Paige comes off as being sort of stoopid, and her husband comes off as being a hard headed jerk. It appeared that they would live happily ever after, but their inability to communicate remained right up until the final page. This could have been a much shorter book if only these two had been capable of a little honesty. Why can't she take steps to help herself, if her husband won't help her.
